"Teeth are meant to last a lifetime", this was a phrase that I read on a website concerned about dental health recently.  It is really true.  I agree. They are meant to last.  But in today's world, many people are unaware of the actions they take daily that are not necessarily helpful to their dental health.

For example the acidic nature of many foods can harm your dental enamel.  In addition, bacteria that infect your gum tissue also grow more rapidly in an acidic environment.  A good practice would be to balance that pH with a glass of milk or xylitol chewing gum. At the very least it would be good to rinse the mouth with water to get some of the acidic substance out of the mouth.

That sounds sensible doesn't it?  Yet, have you ever heard that before?  Chances are you never have and you have probably never thought much about it.  Think about the damage that repeated exposure to acidic substances can do your mouth.

While we are on the topic, consider that gum disease is the number one cause of tooth loss.  That being the case, it makes sense that first and foremost, if you want to keep your teeth for a lifetime, that you should be educated about the diseases that affect the gum tissue.  Recognizing and getting rid of gingivitis or gum disease may have vital importance to you!

Brushing and flossing are both very important.  However, there is one more simple tool that can be beneficial, just ask any dentist or dental profession.  I am referring to a good oral irrigator, such as the hydrofloss.

Of course, keeping your dental health in prime shape is going to have a major impact on whether you get to keep your teeth and avoid expensive treatments and surgery throughout your life.  As one doctor stated, "Many people are headed towards gum surgery and they don't know it."

Take care of your dental health now and live a healthier, happier life!
